Getting the right focus is much more difficult when the subject is moving. The movement here is pretty predictable, so the auto focus was able to track the subject. I have a new appreciation for sports photographers, and those who capture birds in flight. I have a lot examples, where I just missed the focus entirely, once the carousel started moving.
One of the secrets of bird and sports photography is high shutter speeds, but I like the blurred background in your photo. It gives a sense of movement and action while the horse is still in focus.
