Van Wyck Passenger Wait Station

Van Wyck, SC  2026


This passenger wait station was built by the Seaboard Air Line Rail Road in 1900.  After passenger service ended, the station was restored and now serves as an historical marker and memorial to the early 20th century days of railroading in Van Wyck, SC.

Duncan McDonald arrived in Waxhaw in 1888 and was one of the earliest men to establish a residence and a business in Waxhaw.  This residence is perhaps the oldest residence in Waxhaw

Beneath the Water Tower

The historic Waxhaw Water has been featured in this blog many times looking up from below towards the water tank itself.  It dominates the "skyline" of Waxhaw, and serves as focal point for many downtown activities.  Here's a part to the base.

Smokestack

Waxhaw, NC 2026

The smokestack  was once a part of the Rodman-Heath Mill from about 1900 until 1947 and from its opening was the largest employer in Waxhaw.   In 2018, the mill was renovated into a multi-use development containing luxury apartments and a fine restaurant.

Door With Curtains

You don't see curtains very much these days in front door windows.  This is the front door to the Walkup-Gamble house pictured in an earlier post, built in 1897.  You can see the historical register plaque just to the right of the door.
