It's Official Now

 After over a year of living in rental units and using temporary addresses,  I can now say I'm an official resident/citizen of North Carolina.  It became official this week when I obtained a  NC driver's license along with new NC title, registration and plates for the car. Dealing with North Carolina DMV wasn't too bad.  I only needed to wait 2 hrs to get my driver's license, and that was with a scheduled appointment.

Our New Home

After approximately 18 months from signing the purchase contract we finally closed on our new home on September 13.  As you can imagine, things have been rather hectic around here taking care of the final details, and coordinating the move from our rental unit, and shipment of our possessions from Connecticut.  We're still in the process of unpacking and organizing things, but we're happy the move is finally over.  It has been a long time coming.  

 

House Update

Progress on the house is agonizingly slow.  Material and labor shortages continue to plague the home construction industry.  The good news is that we do have a closing date.

Taken, April 16.  Windows have been installed along with the front door.  Interior work will begin shortly on the electricity, plumbing and HVAC before the they close off the interior walls with drywall.

Things are happening quickly now.  This picture was taken on April 9, just slightly less than two weeks after the slab was poured.  While we're encouraged to stop by and see what's going on and to take pictures, we're limited to doing so outside of normal working hours.  Active construction sites can be dangerous places.  There are many challenges to the construction industry these days, making it difficult to predict when we can move in.  Optimistically I've been told it should be ready in July or early August.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

The builders are working as quickly as possible to complete all the homes in this development.  Ours was the last house to start on this street to be started.

 All the stars aligned and the first real construction is now underway on our new home.  It's finally happening after many delays.  This picture was taken on Mar 28, 2022, a year to the day when we first contracted and put down our money.
