Burn Off

 

Ballantyne, Charlotte, NC  2026

I featured the Ballantyne area of Charlotte recently, a large residential, retail and corporate park.  On this particular visit I was surprised to see this flame erupting behind a stand of trees.  I think it's a burn off of natural gas from some sort of utility.  I couldn't get any closer to see the base of the flame.  It burned for quite some time and definitely looked out of place in this area.

I could find no information about this recreation of a mine office located behind the passenger wait station pictured in yesterday's post. I found it to be pretty whimsical with the water wheel and the wooden tombstones along the side.  Note also the backwards "N" in the sign as well as the sign designating the "Essay Office".

Infrastructure

I find structures like this as I walk the trails in this area.  There are housing developments all around these trails so I think it must be a part of the sewer system that serves this area.  I wonder who plans these things, and why they seem to be out in the middle of nowhere.  This seems to have been here awhile, and I see no evidence of any nearby construction.  How did it get here, without disturbing the surrounding forest?  Or has the forest reclaimed any signs of the construction needed to put this here?
