NC/SC Boundary 2025
The border between North Carolina and South Carolina has had a contentious history and wasn't totally resolved until 2017 after decades of modern surveying, studying historical maps and litigation. The irregular stone pictured here was erected in 1813 and marks the border of Union County, NC and Lancaster County, SC. It was placed on the US National Register of Historic Places in 1984. One can make out NC, engraved on the face of the stone in the bottom picture.

Tucked away off the main streets of downtown Waxhaw is this quiet place. I'm not sure who owns this park, but I suspect it is one of the local churches which are nearby. There are no other identifiers on the property other than this shelter which is designated as the "Charles H McGee Memorial Arbor".

Which Way to Go??

The southern terminus of NC-16 ends in Waxhaw at this intersection. Taking NC-75 west will take you to South Carolina, while heading east will take you to Monroe, NC. One can travel north on NC-16 all the way to the border of North Carolina and Virginia near the town of Grassy Creek.

On the first Sunday of the month, the Southend hosts a "Front Porch Sunday" street fair featuring a number of pop-up vendors. It seems to be a very popular event based on the crowds we saw.

Charlotte has a number of distinct neighborhoods that surround the Uptown area. The Southend neighborhood was at one time an industrial park that has re-purposed a number of old mills and factories into lofts, apartments, retail and restaurant spaces.

Matthews Alive!

The city of Matthews held their "Matthews Alive!" festival over the Labor Day Weekend. The ideal weather led to huge turnouts all weekend. The festival featured local businesses, arts and crafts, carnival type rides and all the food you could possibly want, but that is probably not good for you.
