Camp North End

Charlotte, NC. 2025

Camp North End is an old industrial site comprising 76 acres of land.  The building shown here is an historic Ford Motor Co. plant that was built in 1924.  The plant produced 300,000 Model T and Model A Fords.  Between 1941 and 1942 the U.S Army built 5 huge warehouses as a Quartermaster Depot, that supplied all the camps in the southeast.  Later the army produced Gama Goats, an army grade vehicle as well as missiles here.  Today the buildings have been repurposed for business uses, studios, restaurants, etc.  The site still maintains its industrial roots, but has the feel of a site that is returning to nature.

Middle James Brewery - Waxhaw

Waxhaw, NC  2025

This former firehouse now houses Middle James Brewery, whose main brewery is located in Pineville, NC about 15 miles from here.  I don't think they actually do any brewing here now only serving as a tap room and outlet for the main brewery.

Historic Footbridge

Waxhaw, NC. 2025

This is a popular place to stand and watch the trains go underneath you, if you're lucky enough to know when the trains come.

New Development

Waxhaw, NC. 2025

Since Waxhaw is a suburb of Charlotte, just outside of the city limits, it's a very attractive place to live for those who work in Charlotte.  This has caused a lot of growth in the last 10 years or so, and continues today.

Bushes, Trees and Weeds

Waxhaw, NC  2025

On a recent walk around the neighborhood I noticed these huge leaves on what appears to be a seedling.  With AI available with Apple's Photos, the plant was identified as paulownia tomentosa and is considered to be an invasive species in North Carolina.  It seems like it's well on its way in taking over this little section of land.

Good Trouble Protest

Waxhaw, NC. 2025

Normally downtown Waxhaw is fairly quiet on a Thursday morning.  This past Thursday, July 17 brought out dozens of protesters in support of "Good Trouble Day".  They lined the main intersection in downtown Waxhaw and were quite vocal in opposition to Trump's anti-civil rights policies.

Waxhaw Farmer's Market

Waxhaw, NC. 2025

Just about every Saturday during the year, Waxhaw has a farmer's market featuring locally grown produce,  meats, and other "homemade" foods.

Aaron Burr's Rock

Chester, SC  2025

Across the street from the Civil War Monument is this rock.  The inscription reads:
