Suspension Bridge

Charlotte, NC  2025

Freedom Park offers access to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, a popular hiking and biking trail.  This suspension bridge crosses over Little Sugar Creek to a very nice nature museum, that is currently undergoing a renovation.

Stone Bridge

I posted a picture of this stone bridge at Freedom Park earlier this week, but from the other side.

Waxhaw, NC  2025

Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers.  I know that I have a lot to be thankful for this year.

Freedom Park

Charlotte, NC  2025

Freedom Park is located between two historic neighborhoods, Dilworth and Myers Park.  The main attraction is this 7 acre lake surrounded by walking trails, picnic shelters and a pavilion.

12 Mile Creek

Waxhaw, NC  2025

Part of trail I walk runs along 12 Mile Creek, a tributary of the Catawba River.  We have not had much rain this fall, and the creek appears relatively clean compared to most other times, when it appears muddy and brown.

You Are Here

Waxhaw, NC. 2025

This is the only trail sign I have found along the trail I walk.  I'm not sure what the "2" refers to. There might be a sign with a "1" on it somewhere, but I haven't found it.  The GPS coordinates that were obtained from my iPhone and attached to this photo are:  34º 56' 50.24" N and 80º 46' 3.73" W.  Pretty close, but still over a 700 foot difference from the coordinates on the sign in latitude.  I wonder which set of coordinates is more precise.

Squirrel

Waxhaw, NC  2025

I was surprised that this guy sat still for such a long time.  I was able to get some nice squirrel portraits.

Tree Hole

Waxhaw, NC  2025

My walks take me past this tree, which I believe is an oak tree.  I'm amazed that it has grown so tall having this gaping hole on one side.  I wonder why it grew like this.

New Footbridge

Waxhaw, NC  2025

I try to walk everyday, usually along a very nice trail that runs through our neighborhood.  I always have my camera with me and in an attempt to see new photo ops I've been shooting in a square format, sometimes in black and white.  This bridge appears to be a recent addition to the trail, since it's not as weathered as the other bridges along the trail.

Hunter's Moon

Waxhaw, NC  2025

Taken on Nov 4, this is the last "supermoon" of 2025.  By the time I took this shot, the moon had already risen above the tree line and I couldn't include any interesting foreground objects.

Red Maple

Waxhaw, NC. 2025

Leaves are very distinctive and I can see how AI could easily identify them.  How did AI evaluate this entire scene and identify a red maple amongst all the trees??

Sweetgum Leaves

Waxhaw,  NC  2025

I use Apple's Photos to catalog my pictures.  Many of you probably already know this, but one of the features of Photos is to use the built in artificial intelligence capabilities to identify trees, leaves, shrubs and a lot of other items.  I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it identified these leaves as Sweetgum.

Angry Orchard

Walden, NY  2025

If you ever find yourself in the area, the Angry Orchards Cider House is definitely worth a visit.  You can tour the orchard, the cider house and sample a variety of hard ciders.  The area around Wallkill and Walden were always known for their apple orchards, but with the addition of Angry Orchards, they are now a destination stop.

Reformed Church of Shawangunk

Wallkill, NY  2025

This is a somewhat historic church, having been in continuous use since 1755.   The cemetery surrounding the church is the final resting place for my grandfather (1903-1986) whose grave is nearby.  I have a lot of fond memories of the Wallkill area while visiting my grandparents, and other relatives when I was much younger.

National Baseball Hall of Fame

Cooperstown, NY  2025

Our recent trip to the northeast brought us close to Cooperstown, NY, the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.  Of course we had to stop.  We were able to take in most of the museum, but one could easily spend hours here.
